Types of Check Valve
Pipeline Check Valve
The Pipeline check valve, also known as an angle valve, is installed on the oil delivery pipeline of the submersible oil pump to prevent medium backflow and reduce the impact of the medium on the submersible oil pump.
New Type Check Valve
The New type check valve is mainly used on various fully automatic self-priming fuel pumps and can also be used independently. It can prevent the oil pump from drawing air when starting, prevent liquid backflow when the pump stops, and has a filter screen to clean the oil.
Triangle Check Valve
The Triangle check valve for fuel dispensers is installed between the corrugated pipe at the bottom of the fuel dispenser and the flange. It plays a role in isolation and enhanced sealing between the oil delivery pipeline and the fuel dispenser.
Foot Pedal Hydraulic Valve
The foot pedal hydraulic valve, also known as a double-door check valve, is one of the necessary accessories for fuel dispensers to prevent liquid backflow in the oil suction pipeline when shut down. It is suitable for liquid check of various pumps.

Functions Of Check Valve
Preventing Backflow
Check valves are mainly created to stop flow in a system by permitting fluid movement in a single direction only to maintain system integrity and prevent contamination or equipment damage from occurring due to backflow disruptions.
Equipment Protection
Check valves are important not only for stopping backflow but also for safeguarding equipment like pumps, from potential harm caused by reverse flow situations. Pumps can easily get damaged if they experience flow in that direction. Check valves serve as a measure by making sure that once the pump stops working the fluid doesn' t flow back into it. This helps prolong the lifespan of the pump and lowers maintenance expenses in the run.
Pressure Retention
In systems, it' s crucial to have check valves as they play a role, in keeping the pressure at the right levels by stopping the reverse flow and maintaining pressure on one side of the valve where it' s needed for smooth operations and safety purposes.
Enhancing System Efficiency
Check valves boost the effectiveness of systems by controlling the flow direction and preventing backflow disturbances which can disrupt operations and lead to unnecessary energy consumption, in resolving flow problems.
Reducing Water Hammer
Water hammer occurs when there is a fluctuation in fluid flow that creates pressure spikes in pipelines. To address this problem effectively and minimize damage to pipes and fittings caused by water hammer incidents the use of check valves is essential to regulate the flow direction and prevent changes in pressure, within the system.
Supporting System Isolation Maintenance
Check valves are also crucial, for isolating systems during maintenance tasks by preventing flow and enabling specific system parts to be separated without impacting others. This makes maintenance and repair processes more accessible. Ensures the smooth operation of the remaining system components.
Common Materials of Check Valve
Stainless steel check valves are ideal for demanding environments because they resist corrosion, heat, and low temperatures. Due to their excellent mechanical properties, including high strength and durability, they have a long service life. These valves are well-suited for applications involving high temperatures and pressures, such as industrial processing, chemical plants, and oil and gas industries.
Stainless steel check valves are available in various grades - 304 and 316 are the most common. Grade 316 stainless steel offers enhanced resistance to chlorides and other corrosive substances. It is suitable for marine and coastal applications. While stainless steel check valves provide exceptional performance, they are less cost-effective than brass and plastic.
Plastic check valves are frequently used in irrigation and water management systems. Three common body materials are PVC, PP, and PA. They are corrosion-resistant to most corrosive media, such as seawater, acids, bases, chloride solutions, and organic solvents. However, be careful when using aromatic and chlorinated hydrocarbons; double-check whether the valve material is resistant to the specific hydrocarbon.
Brass check valves are excellent for air, water, oil, or fuel applications. However, they are not resistant to seawater or chlorinated water. Compared to stainless steel, brass is less resistant to heat and corrosion. It is typically used for lower-pressure applications.
Installation Steps of Check Valve
Turn off fluid supply
If installing the check valve into an operating system, turn off the fluid supply to the piping or tubing where it will be installed.
Check valve and pipe evaluation
Check for foreign particles within the valve, as they can disrupt the smooth flow of media through it. Also, check for uneven edges, scratches, or anything else that could prevent the check valve from sealing properly.
For example, in the case of swing valves, move the flapper by pushing it away from the seating surface to ensure it moves freely. Also, ensure the pipes are clean and debris-free before installing the check valve.
Check valve placement
An arrow on the valve indicates the flow direction. Position the valve accordingly on the pipeline (horizontal or vertical).
Attach the check valve
Attach the check valve to the pipeline. There are many types of connections. The following provides general guidance on installing the check valve based on the connection type. Read our available articles on the various connection types to learn more.
